Cloud commitment shortfall advisory for finance, procurement, IT and FinOps leaders.

Cloud commitment shortfall advisory

Reduce cloud commitment shortfall risk before your deadline.

We reconcile your cloud spending commitment, identify eligible software purchases, and coordinate a practical plan to reduce exposure. You get clear economics and a named owner from the first call to the verified result.

For CFOs, CIOs, procurement and FinOps leaders with an AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud commitment that consumption may not reach before the contract deadline.

The review is a 30-minute introductory call. The paid 14-Day Cloud Commit Audit is scoped and priced in writing only if we both agree it is worth doing.

It assumes the renewals were already planned and budgeted, the agreement limits how much marketplace spend can count, and any shortfall would be billed in full. Your agreement may treat a shortfall differently. Your Audit uses your own contract and billing data.

The coordination gap

A commitment shortfall is a contract problem, a budget problem and a timing problem at once.

Cloud commitments are negotiated by finance and procurement, consumed by engineering, and tracked in billing tools that cannot see the software renewal calendar. When consumption trails the forecast, no single team owns the gap until the deadline is close.

01

The forecast shortfall

Consumption is running behind the committed amount. What a shortfall costs depends on your agreement. It may be invoiced, applied as credit with its own conditions, or addressed in a renegotiation. The first step is reading your terms, not assuming the worst.

02

The separate software budget

Some software you already plan to buy may be sold through your provider's marketplace and may count toward the commitment. That depends on the product, how it is listed and sold, your agreement's limits and the purchase date.

03

One plan, owned end to end

Reconcile the position, test each planned purchase against your agreement, compare marketplace and direct economics, and act only where the net result is better for you. We never recommend buying software you do not need just to consume a commitment.

Questions

What finance and procurement leaders ask first

Does marketplace spend count toward our commitment?

Only eligible purchases count, and the rules differ by provider. Each provider decides which products and transaction types qualify, and your agreement may add limits, such as a cap on how much marketplace spend can count. On AWS, software-as-a-service products generally need the "Deployed on AWS" designation, and your agreement sets the remaining terms. On Microsoft Azure, offers marked "Azure benefit eligible" and bought through the Azure portal during the commitment term can count. On Google Cloud, eligible marketplace spend can count, with exclusions that include professional services. The Audit checks each planned purchase against the current rules and your agreement.

How do you assess eligibility for our specific agreement?

We start from your signed terms, not general rules: how the commitment is measured, its coverage dates, and any marketplace limits or exclusions. We then check each product's current marketplace status, how the transaction would be sold, and when it would be invoiced. Where a point is unclear, we document it and ask your provider account team or the vendor to confirm it in writing before you buy.

We already have a reseller, a cloud account team and a FinOps platform. Why add you?

Keep them. Your account team represents the provider, your reseller handles transactions, and your FinOps platform reports consumption. We work on your side across all of them, and across finance, procurement and IT, to produce one plan with documented assumptions, a named owner and verified results.

What happens if there is no economically viable opportunity?

The Audit tells you so, with the evidence. You still receive a reconciled commitment position, an exposure analysis under your agreement, and the open questions to take to your provider before the deadline. A clear decision not to buy through the marketplace is a valid outcome. The Audit fee does not depend on finding an opportunity.

Do we have to change software vendors or commercial terms?

No vendor change is required; the aim is to buy software you already use or already plan to buy. Whether your negotiated terms carry into a marketplace private offer depends on the vendor and the marketplace. Any difference from your direct terms is documented before you decide.

Will we pay more for the software?

Sometimes the marketplace price or terms differ from a direct purchase. We compare your total cost both ways, including our compensation, and recommend the marketplace route only when the net result is better for you. If it would cost more than the value it protects, we recommend against it.

What if our vendor isn't on the marketplace?

Many enterprise software and security vendors sell through AWS Marketplace, Microsoft Marketplace and Google Cloud Marketplace, but not all do, and not every listing counts toward a commitment. The Audit flags those purchases and focuses the plan on the ones that can.

How are you paid, and how is it disclosed?

The Audit is a fixed fee agreed in writing. On private offers we structure, our compensation is built into the offer and disclosed to you in writing, with a total-cost comparison, before you accept. Advisory retainers are a fixed monthly fee. Disclosure lets you judge for yourself whether each recommendation serves your economics.

What information do you need to begin?

Your cloud agreement and commitment terms, billing and consumption exports, your software renewal calendar, existing marketplace purchases and any limits on them, and a named contact each from finance, IT and procurement. The 14-day Audit period starts once the agreed inputs and access are complete.

What can the Audit establish in 14 days?

Your reconciled commitment position and forecast, what a shortfall would mean under your agreement, which planned purchases in scope are eligible and when, how marketplace and direct economics compare, and a prioritized action plan. Items that depend on a vendor or provider confirmation are listed as unresolved dependencies, with an owner for each.

How do execution and ongoing tracking work?

You can act on the plan with your existing partners, on your own, or with us through Marketplace Orchestration & Private Offers. Credit toward a commitment generally appears after the provider invoices the purchase, so we confirm the credited amount then and update the forecast. An advisory retainer keeps that tracking, renewal planning and reporting going through your deadline and into your next commitment discussion.

What data do you need, and how is it protected?

Commitment terms, billing exports and a list of upcoming renewals. We work under a mutual NDA and never need production access to your systems.

Are you affiliated with AWS, Microsoft or Google?

No. Blueprint Advantage Group is independent. Chuck Sherrard's AWS and Google Cloud roles are prior career experience, and neither company endorses the firm.
